Dental Exams & Teeth Cleanings

We often stress to our patients that coming in for a check-up every six months is important to the health of their smile. But we rarely tell you why it’s so important to see us that often. Visiting South Texas Smiles regularly for a dental cleaning and exam has many benefits for your oral health. Not only does it allow us to keep an eye on your teeth, but it also gives you a chance to bring up any concerns you have.
Contact UsRoutine Dental Check-Ups
Coming in for a routine appointment like an exam and a cleaning is something we recommend to all our patients. We generally like to see you every six months, but we may adjust that schedule based on your needs and the health of your mouth. A dental check-up appointment is very straightforward. We start by taking X-rays of your mouth and teeth if it’s been a while or if you express a concern about your teeth. Our team uses those images to determine if you need any additional treatment. Your hygienist will clean the plaque off your teeth using a special tool. Plaque is where bacteria like to breed and cause damage, so it’s important to have this removed regularly – at-home brushing usually isn’t enough to completely clean your teeth. After the dentist takes a closer look at your teeth, the hygienist will polish your teeth so your smile looks beautiful.
If we determine that you need additional treatment like a filling or a crown, we can often begin that work the same day as your exam. We always try to make the most of your time with us and try to avoid making you come back if possible.
Importance of Preventive Care
Preventive care is a vital part of caring for your teeth. Thanks to dental services like exams, teeth cleaning, fluoride treatments, sealants, oral cancer screenings, and more, our team is often able to help our patients avoid more invasive and costly work down the road.If it’s been a while since you’ve visited the dentist for an exam or cleaning, schedule your appointment today!
