How Does Invisalign Work?
Straightening your teeth can do wonders for your quality of life – it can improve your self-confidence and your personal and professional interactions. Typically, teeth straightening involves metal braces. For adults, the thought of noticeable bars and brackets, the inconvenient tightening appointments, and the years of an interrupted lifestyle just isn’t worth it. But Invisalign makes it easier than ever to get straight teeth and a beautiful smile.
To begin, we’ll bring you in for a consultation where we’ll determine if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign, discuss your smile goals, and take your first set of impressions to send to the lab. Once the lab sends back your first sets of clear aligners, we’ll bring you back in to make sure they fit okay and to go over the instructions on wearing them again. Wear your trays for at least 22 hours a day (you can take them out to eat and drink, and to brush and floss your teeth). We’ll give you a schedule for switching out the trays, and for visiting us to check in and get your next sets. As you progress through the sets of trays, you’ll notice your teeth gradually moving into more ideal positions until you have your new look.
Benefits of Invisalign
- Clear trays are virtually invisible
- Plastic material is smooth and doesn’t cut cheeks or irritate gums
- Trays are removable for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing
- Treatment time is generally less than that of traditional braces
- Fewer check-in appointments required – typically only every 4-6 weeks

Can you eat with Invisalign aligners?
One of the great benefits of choosing Invisalign clear aligners over other orthodontic options is the fact that there are no activity or food restrictions, meaning you can eat whatever you want after you remove your aligner. As tempting as it can be to sneak a quick bite of something without taking your Invisalign aligner out, not eating or drinking anything besides water while wearing aligners is an important rule to follow with Invisalign. Not only can chewing break or damage clear aligners, but food and drinks can stain them and make them appear more noticeable. After you are done eating, you will want to brush your teeth or at least rinse your mouth out before putting your aligner back in.
Is Invisalign painful?
It is not uncommon to experience some pain and discomfort when you first begin orthodontic treatment and when you have to start wearing a new aligner. This is because even though Invisalign uses low force to gently shift the teeth, your teeth are simply not used to being moved. While your teeth and gums are adjusting to your new Invisalign aligners, we recommend taking over-the-counter pain medication to relieve some of the tenderness, as well as eating cold foods like ice cream and applying dental wax to areas on the aligner that are making your mouth feel particularly sore. If you are still experiencing pain after a week or two, let us know so we can ensure that your aligner fits properly.Call Now
