How to Naturally Whiten Your Teeth

Baking Soda

This staple in the kitchen also has a place in your bathroom. Studies show that baking soda acts as a mild abrasive that can scrub away stains over time. You can use a DIY paste made with baking soda or simply switch to a toothpaste with sodium bicarbonate. But be careful not to overdo it. An excessive use of baking soda can wear away at your teeth’s enamel and cause tooth sensitivity.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Another product that can be found in most homes, hydrogen peroxide isn’t just for cleaning wounds. Hydrogen peroxide, a bleaching agent found in most home whitening kits, can be used as an at-home whitening tool. By rinsing lightly with hydrogen peroxide, you could see results in two weeks’ time. It’s important to note that professionals recommend you only use hydrogen peroxide with 3% or less concentration. Apple Cider Vinegar

Yet again, something you probably already have in your home. Apple cider vinegar is a multi-purpose household product that also has natural whitening properties. It can help you whiten your teeth by gargling it alone or with baking soda. You can also create a whitening paste with two parts apple cider vinegar and one part baking soda. Results take time, so be patient!

Coconut Oil

Research is still inconclusive at this point, but coconut oil is thought to have stain-decreasing properties. Combined with a small amount of smashed peppermint leaf, coconut oil contains lauric acid which can break down some of the bacteria on the surface of your teeth that is responsible for yellowing teeth. Again, this remedy takes time, but there are no larger risks associated with it.

Watch What You Eat

A sure-fire way to keep your teeth stain-free is by watching what you eat. From red wine and dark berries to coffee and soda, many things you eat can stain your teeth. While you don’t necessarily have to give any of these things up, be sure to enjoy them in moderation. You should also rinse with water after consuming them so the color is less likely stick to your teeth.
