How to Prepare & Recover From Dental Surgery

If you have a dental procedure coming up, it may cause you stress to think of all the things that you need to do to prepare and what to expect. We want to help set your mind at ease with this information and a simple checklist!

  1. Schedule a Consultation
  2. If you know you need a procedure of any kind, the first step is always to call us to schedule a consultation. We’ll walk you through what you can expect and answer any questions you may have. We’ll also give you instructions specific to your surgery and what you’ll need to do to prepare and recover quickly.

  3. Follow the Dentist’s Pre-Op Instructions
  4. After the consultation, we’ll arrange a date for your appointment and give you specific guidelines. This may include dietary recommendations, prescribed medication, or arranging to have a friend or family member pick you up after your procedure.

  5. Prepare for the Week of Surgery
  6. Make sure you have transportation to and from your procedure. You may also want to buy foods that will aid in your healing. These include soft foods like pureed soups, yogurt, applesauce, Jell-O, mashed veggies, and smoothies. If you’re feeling anxious, you may want to try deep breathing or relaxing exercises to help you prepare. We guarantee we’ll do everything we can to make your visit comfortable and stress-free.

  7. Follow Your Aftercare Guidelines
  8. After surgery, you may need to take some time off to rest. We’ll give you a specific set of instructions on medication dosing, hygiene guidelines, dietary restrictions, and more to help you feel comfortable throughout the recovery process. This may mean prescription or over-the-counter drugs—please take any medications as prescribed. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids and also avoid using tobacco products and drinking from straws. Clean the area as we’ve instructed, and call if you have any questions or if any problems arise.

  9. Enjoy Your Revitalized Smile
  10. We take pride in being able to provide quality service and a comfortable experience. It’s natural to be uneasy about any surgery, but we assure you that we’ll take great care of you. If you follow the aftercare instructions and keep up with your oral hygiene regimen, you can enjoy a smooth, speedy recovery and be back to yourself in no time!

Please contact us today if you need to schedule a consultation or have any questions following a procedure. We are happy to help!
