How would you like to have straighter teeth without the bulk and inconvenience of traditional metal braces? While this might have seemed too good to be true in the past, innovations in modern orthodontic technology have led to a safe and effective alternative to traditional braces: clear aligner therapy. Clear aligners are a great option for patients who want a comfortable and convenient orthodontic treatment that doesn’t disrupt their appearance.
Are There Different Types of Clear Aligners?
At South Texas Smiles, we proudly offer three different clear aligner systems: Invisalign®, ClearCorrect™ , and Minor Tooth Movement®. During your free orthodontic consultation, we’ll determine which system is best for you based on your goals for your smile, your oral health history, and any other concerns you might have.
How Do Clear Aligners Work?
Clear aligner therapy can correct a variety of mild to moderate issues with misalignment, spacing, crowding, and bite discrepancies. Like traditional metal braces, clear aligners work by gently shifting the placement of your teeth over time.
But unlike braces, clear aligners are made of smooth plastic and are almost invisible. They’re removable, so you take them out when eating, drinking anything other than water, and cleaning your teeth.
Typically, patients will get a new set of custom-created clear aligners every few weeks. The trays need to be worn at least 20-22 hours a day, but they require less adjustments to your oral hygiene routine and diet, and are easy on the inside of your cheeks.
How Long Will I Need to Wear Clear Aligners?
The length of time you’ll need to wear clear aligners depends on the type of treatment you choose and what you’d like to change about your smile. During your consultation, we’ll be able to give you an estimate of how long you’ll need to wear your aligners to get the smile of your dreams.
