Biological Dentistry

The practice of biological dentistry recognizes the links between your teeth and your body’s overall health. Your body’s health is linked to the health of your teeth—and heart problems, diabetes, and strokes have all been linked to poor oral health. We focus on strong preventive care to help your mouth stay healthy, which, in turn, helps your body stay healthy!

Mercury-Safe Dentistry

Did you know that mercury is one of the most toxic substances on the planet yet it’s commonly used for silver amalgam fillings? Fortunately, non-toxic alternatives do exist. South Texas Biological Dentistry, PLLC is a mercury-safe dental office, which means that we can safely remove your mercury amalgam fillings and place brand new, mercury-free fillings!

Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique

When we remove your mercury amalgam restorations, we take every precaution to ensure that we are using the safest methods possible. SMART, or Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique, is the set of guidelines that we follow during the removal process. These guidelines include keeping the fillings cool, cutting the amalgam into chunks, using additional air purification, and implementing other precautions that are all in place for your safety.

FAQs About Biological Dentistry

What is biocompatibility?

Biocompatibility is a fancy way of saying that the materials we use are compatible with living tissue. They are not toxic for the body and can be exposed to a patient without negative side-effects.

What are the benefits of mercury-free dentistry?

  • Natural-Looking — Our Fillings and crowns are carefully matched to your tooth color.
  • Stronger & Longer Lasting — Amalgam fillings tend to weaken and crack over time. Porcelain and composite resin is safe and non-toxic.
  • Avoids Environmental Hazards — If amalgam is not properly disposed, it can end up in water sources and potentially endanger wildlife.

Is ozone therapy minimally invasive?

Yes. Ozone therapy is a pure disinfectant that can work wonders for your smile. Instead of treating periodontitis, oral infections, and tooth decay with complex procedures or laser therapy, ozone therapy utilizes natural elements such as water and oxygen to restore your smile back to health.
