The practice of biological dentistry recognizes the links between your teeth and your body’s overall health. Your body’s health is linked to the health of your teeth—and heart problems, diabetes, and strokes have all been linked to poor oral health. We focus on strong preventive care to help your mouth stay healthy, which, in turn, helps your body stay healthy!
Did you know that mercury is one of the most toxic substances on the planet yet it’s commonly used for silver amalgam fillings? Fortunately, non-toxic alternatives do exist. South Texas Biological Dentistry, PLLC is a mercury-safe dental office, which means that we can safely remove your mercury amalgam fillings and place brand new, mercury-free fillings!
Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique
When we remove your mercury amalgam restorations, we take every precaution to ensure that we are using the safest methods possible. SMART, or Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique, is the set of guidelines that we follow during the removal process. These guidelines include keeping the fillings cool, cutting the amalgam into chunks, using additional air purification, and implementing other precautions that are all in place for your safety.
FAQs About Biological Dentistry
What makes biological dentistry different from standard dentistry?
Biological dentistry focuses on your total wellness rather than just your oral health. Your mouth is the gateway into the rest of your body and is often linked to a variety of other diseases. Biological dentistry recognizes this and focuses on treating you with holistic materials that will benefit your overall health.
What are the biocompatible materials you use?
The most notable biocompatible material we use is composite fillings. Standard dentistry is known for using amalgam fillings, which contain a heavy amount of mercury. We’ve replaced amalgam fillings with composite resin fillings which are mercury-free and much less risky for your health. We take your health seriously and we’re committed to being a mercury-safe dentist for the San Antonio area!
How does ozone therapy compare to more conventional disinfectants?
Ozone therapy has proven to be equally as successful as conventional disinfectants with less complex procedures. This pure method of treatment uses oxygen to both disinfect and stop an existing infection from spreading. Ozone therapy is particularly helpful in periodontal patients, as it can eliminate the need for laser therapy.
